A DOT physical is a medical examination required for commercial drivers to ensure they are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely. The exam includes evaluation of: • Vision • Hearing • Blood pressure and pulse • Urinalysis (screening for underlying medical conditions) • Medical history review • Cardiovascular health • Neurological function • Musculoskeletal fitness If you meet all FMCSA standards, you will receive your Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Medical Card) at the time of your visit. Who Needs a DOT Physical? You are required to obtain a DOT physical if you: • Hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) • Operate a vehicle weighing over 10,000 lbs • Transport hazardous materials • Drive vehicles designed to carry 8+ passengers (for compensation) • Drive vehicles designed to carry 15+ passengers (not for compensation) Not sure if you need one?
